This program traces the history of two of the most powerful aboriginal groups in the Americas - the Maya and the Aztecs. The video documents the success of the Mayan civilization, which was marked by advancements in agriculture, trade, mathematics, astronomy, and writing. The program also details how the Aztecs, who referred to themselves as the Mexica, controlled an empire that dominated much of central Mexico. Though trade was a major component of Aztec life, their focus was on warfare and religion. The video illustrates how the resentment of tribes subjugated by the Aztecs led to the collapse of their empire as those groups sided with the Spanish invaders.
